Question- I have a fantastic idea for a movie
and I would like to quickly obtain protection from the unauthorized use by
unscrupulous parties…
As an IP specialist, I have come across
numerous scenarios wherein people with a lot of misconceptions have made enquiries
on the legal protection of a number of things which may or may not be regarded
as intellectual property. So the pertinent question then is what is Intellectual
Property?
IP relates to intangible creations of the mind to
which a monopoly has been assigned by law to certain owners. It is
something unique that is physically created and includes patents, copyright, industrial
design rights, trademarks, plant variety
rights, trade dress, geographical
indications and trade secrets.
Answer- You cannot obtain intellectual property
protection for the idea but you can obtain protection for the movie.
