The Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) held its annual lecture series on October 30, 2017, at Four Points by Sheraton in Victoria Island, Lagos. The theme of this year’s conference was “Intellectual Property Rights in the New Global Knowledge Economy”.
The following are some of the notable highlights from the event:
·           A solid awareness of Intellectual Property(IP) is very relevant for the Nigerian economy to attain its desired potentials.
·           An analysis of various Intellectual Property landscapes around the world, the Trade-Related Aspects of IP (TRIPS) as well as the role of IP in the World Trade Organisation (WTO).  We recommend that there is an urgent need for domestication of some of the laws in these treaties for Nigeria to implement International Best Practices.
·           There was a call for a full-fledged ministry of IP given the pivotal role that IP plays in the development of every country.
·           There were panel discussions on issues pertaining to Intellectual Property and charting a way forward for Nigeria in this regard.
